I am currently looking for research on strategies being used by acute care hospitals to forecast or predict staffing needs. This would be a short time period like  within a weeks time period, looking at staffing and predicted census to then realign staff  to where the needs are. We have just started  doing some of this work ot our institution and am looking for the evidence. Not finding much if any. Any help or if your institution is doing this would love to know. .With the constant fluctuations in patient census and acuity and then throw in staffing needs- it is essential to utilize staff housewide to the best of our ability to minimize costs and still provide quality care.
